equivalents, and there are also old codes with equivalent 4-letter codes
but completely different numeric codes. A few numeric codes even have
conflicting meanings in the old and new standards. There may have to be
a new subroutine to help users identify those.

using only 4-letter codes (no longer 2- or 3-letter codes). It lays out a plan for
making the module more conformant with the ISO standard while still offering good
backward compatibility. (No code changes made yet.)
