I had applied this for system-image 2.2, but I'm going to back it out. During a full test suite run, this patch leaves tons of log files in /tmp. Without a way of reaping those resources (and optionally keeping them perhaps for the occasional debugging session), it's just too much noise to deal with.

After further debugging, this isn't a problem with the patch, but with udm, which mandel is fixing, so I'm reapplying this to 2.2.
